Netflix Says You’re Using a VPN: A Clean Troubleshooting Order

What is happening

You press play in a hotel room and Netflix shows a VPN or proxy warning. Opening five server lists at once usually makes the diagnosis worse.

The clean test order

Start with Netflix’s own rule: a VPN can limit you to titles available globally, and live events or ad-supported plans may not work through a VPN. Confirm that the title plays with the VPN off. Then reconnect to one nearby server, sign out and back in, clear browser cookies or restart the app, and verify that DNS and IP location agree. If every device on the same network fails, test a phone hotspot to separate the hotel network from the account.

The decision

Do not treat endless server switching as a strategy. Choose a provider that publishes streaming support and offers reachable support, then stay within Netflix’s terms and your local rules. VPNPICKR lets you compare those support claims and refund windows before paying.
