The controlled experiment

An encrypted tunnel does one useful thing here: it makes your traffic unreadable in transit, so route decisions can’t be based on what you’re watching. Think of it as shipping a sealed vault instead of a postcard — the courier can’t sort by contents anymore. Run the same device, same time of evening, same title, one nearby server. If the affected route improves under the tunnel, you’ve learned something real. If it doesn’t, you’ve saved a subscription.
